Sand + Torio - Little Wonders

"Sand!" exclaimed Torio, stopping short on the path. "She's awake!"

The wizard stood up from the plant he was examining, and turned around. The light filtering through the trees caused the mist from the waterfall to sparkle, creating a halo around his beloved. She was smiling at him, one hand on her swollen abdomen. He could not help the boyish grin that crossed his face as he strode over.

"Well little wizard," he said joyfully, bending near and pressing a hand to Torio's belly. "You decide to honor us with your presence, hmm?"

His answer was a resounding kick, as the little half-elf inside Torio fluttered. His bright blue eyes widened and she laughed at the expression of delight on Sand's face. The little one had the habit of playing "hard to get" with her...or his...father, fluttering and dancing about tirelessly until the wizard tried to feel the movements. Then suddenly the little half-elf would be too tired to continue.

Sand stood up and looked at Torio, his heart filling with contentment and overflowing with love. He would never have believed it had someone told him so many years ago that he would find so great a passion. Granted he had surely suffered to find her, and his mind shuddered briefly as he realized how close he had come to losing Torio...and possibly his own head. How different his life would have been had a different path been chosen.

He caressed her face softly, his eyes never leaving hers. She knew something deep and prolific was going through Sand's mind, and didn't speak for a long moment. The baby settled down and she pulled her elf close for a tender kiss.

"How do you even know she will be a wizard?" Torio asked with a smirk.

Sand raised his eyebrows at her in mock puzzlement. "Of course he will be a wizard, dear girl. What else could he possibly be?"

Torio opened her mouth to say something, then closed it with a bemused smile, walking away from him. Her parting words then floated on the breeze.

"My dear Sand...I do believe that she will be a diplomat!"
